New market for Rosebank

ROSEBANK – Those left down in the dumps by the closure of the Rosebank Rooftop Market following a lease dispute may be cheered up by the news of a new Sunday market coming to Rosebank Mall.

The new Finders Keepers Market, brain-child of former Rooftop Market trader Dana Druion and a business partner, will be launched on 3 November, according to its website.

Druion, who traded at the previous market for 20 years, said the new market would be an “upmarket craft and flea market” that would make for an “exciting, fun-filled experience for the whole family”.

“Our entertainment will bring together a diverse assortment of traditional African music, mime artists and buskers who will contribute to the atmosphere,” she said.

The market will feature food, bric-a-brac, antiques, clothing and an “eclectic assortment of handmade and creative arts and crafts”.

Druion was one of the traders who was loathe to move with the previous market to its new premises at Norwood Mall, and said that Rosebank offered a “cosmopolitan mix” of restaurants, shops and entertainment, including the world-renowned African Craft Market.

“Rosebank Mall is the perfect host centre of a unique and quality Sunday market, and offers stunning views of the Johannesburg skyline and sunsets to compliment the pulsating African heartbeat of the traditional market experience,” said Druion.

She said the market management team incorporated entrepreneurs, traders and skilled professionals who were committed to building a world-class market.

“This market will be totally unique in that mentoring and coaching will be on offer to assist traders in the development of their businesses. Our managing agents, Hyprop, are firmly committed to encouraging and assisting traders who are interested in becoming future mall tenants,” said Druion.
