BRAAMFONTEIN – Wits University students have hatched an initiative called ProjectW or Project Wits to feed the hungry fellow students on campus.

The launch of the project will take place tomorrow and the acting dean of students is expected to address the audience about the deepening problem of homeless and hungry students at the university.

Representatives of the project will hand over 6 000 cans of non-perishable foods and R5 000 worth more of food to the needy students.

The objective of the project is to bridge the gap between the poor and the rich students.

Students who comprised of Jews, Greeks, Muslims and internationals have described the initiative as the social activist group that challenges the patriarchal systems within the students’ representative council and the intolerance of different religions and cultures on campus, among other things.

Leaders of the initiative had engaged with management and students with a view to re-brand the university and help the vice-chancellor’s vision of having the institution to be the best on the continent.

Again, the project has been used as the vehicle to find out what the students wanted from the university and how it could help curb the ailing graduation rate.
