Police nab young house robbers

Sandringham police swopped four young man for house breaking and being in possession of stolen goods.

According to police the four accused allegedly broke into a unit in Willow View complex in broad daylight. Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said they believed that the suspects jumped over the wall of the complex. Maphakela said guards from a security company received a panic button signal and immediately responded. He said upon the security guards arrival they saw a man carrying a plasma TV outside the complex. “The suspect ran away and the security guards called the police and chased the suspects.”

Maphakela said the suspect dropped the TV and ran towards the Jukskei River, but was eventually arrested. The other three suspects were caught hiding on the river bank. He said police recovered two plasma televisions, three laptops, an iPad, one cellphone and clothes stashed in a school bag in bushes on the river bank.

The accused are aged, 20, 23 and two are 18 years old. Maphakela said one of the 18-year-old suspects was a pupil at Alexandra High School.

The accused appeared at Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court and they were denied bail.
