African cuisine celebrated in style

JOHANNESBURG - African cuisine was the order of the day at the Hospitality All African People's Imbiza

People from all over Johannesburg had their taste buds treated with African cuisine by some of the best chefs on the continent.

The Hospitality All African People’s Imbiza took place at the Braamfontein Recreation Centre, in celebration of Heritage Day where chefs cooked up a storm. Chefs from South Africa, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Congo and Ghana came together to compete and cooked indigenous food from their respective countries.

The main event at the imbiza was the Nelson Mandela Culinary Challenge. Organiser, Citrum Khumalo said it was a success and they would make it an annual event. “I hope we will have sponsors next year and a better venue,” he said.

People enjoyed a variety of African food and drinks, socialised with peers and industry experts while learning about each other’s indigenous food. Khumalo said while they wanted to remind people of various indigenous foods, they wanted to create a networking platform for trade and industry.
