EMMARENTIA – A would-be robber ran from his victim empty-handed after she threw stones at him when he tried to steal her cellphone at Johannesburg Botanical Gardens.
According to Parkview police spokesperson Princess Mudau, the woman and a friend were taking photographs near a stream when the attack took place.
“She heard a man’s voice from behind her. He demanded her cellphone. When she turned around, he pulled a knife out of his jacket,” said Mudau.
The woman threw her cellphone away, and the man ran to where it fell. She screamed for help and threw stones at the robber.
Passersby responded to the woman’s cries, and when the robber saw them approach, he fled without the cellphone.
No arrests have been made.
