Triathletes return from Germany
ALEXANDRA - Three Triathlon champs return from Germany after they were selected to compete.
Three Alex triathlon champs returned from Germany where they participated in a tournament they described as “memorable”.
Lebogang Mashabela, Lucky Maduwa and Abongile Mvunyiswa were in Köln, Germany, for four days competing in swimming, biking and running. The sport is divided into three disciplines: Mashabela biked, Maduwa ran and Mvunyiswa swam. “We had an amazing experience and came home with silver medals,” said Mvunyiswa.
The three champs were chosen to represent Afrika Tikkun, which also raised funds for vulnerable children. “Afrika Tikkun helps the needy and this was a way in which funds could be raised while we also had fun,” said Mashabela.
Mashabela added they also had a good time in Germany, as they saw how other people lived and the food they ate. The trio also encouraged more girls to get involved in the sport because many people believed that it was for males only, especially biking.
