La Mome returns to Foxwood

Legendary French singer Edith Piaf will be brought to life on the stage of Foxwood Theatre.

Kevin Feather’s Passionate Piaf, starring Lyn Locketz, will return to the Houghton theatre due to popular demand next month.

“Mention La Vie En Rose, and one person immediately comes to mind: Edith Piaf, the Little Sparrow. This singer was as iconic as Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe, and her life story every bit as tragic,” said the theatre’s Clive Rodel.

Piaf’s rise to international fame was the stuff out of which history was made.

“Starting out as a child singing in the streets of Paris for hand-outs, she became internationally acclaimed for her remarkable voice, stage presence, and tenacity in the face of adversity which included psychological problems, illness, a tragic love life, and serious motor vehicle accidents which drove her to alcohol and drug abuse,” he said.

Piaf died at age 47, her body worn out by illness, pain and substance abuse.

“She left behind a legacy in the musical world which will never be forgotten,” said Rodel.

Feather’s production will evoke the spirit of this tortured soul in words and music, and will separate myth from truth with a selection of Piaf’s most famous songs sung by Locketz, including Hymne a l’Amour, Mon Dieu, Padam, Autumn Leaves, La Vie En Rose, and No Regrets.

“At 1.51m tall, Locketz bears more than a passing likeness to the petite chanteuse in stature and, particularly, in vocal quality,” said Rodel.

The show will be narrated by Feather, who will also provide accompaniment on the piano.

Passionate Piaf is at Foxwood Theatre, 13 5th Street, Houghton Estate, on Saturdays and Sundays from 5 until 27 October.
