Zuma mulls E-toll Bill
GAUTENG - President Jacob Zuma is still considering the Transport Laws and Related Matters Amendment Bill, also known as the E-toll Bill, the presidency has said.
“Once he has made a decision, the President will inform Parliament and the public,” said spokesperson Mac Maharaj.
Sanral CEO Nazir Alli said the national roads agency awaited President Jacob Zuma’s signature on the Bill, before it could start the roll out of e-tolling on Gauteng’s highways.
In April 2012, the High Court in Pretoria granted Outa an interdict approving a full judicial review before e-tolling could be implemented.
The interdict prevented Sanral from levying or collecting e-tolls pending the outcome of the review.
Sanral and the National Treasury appealed the court’s decision.
In September 2012, the Constitutional Court set aside the interim order, and in December, the High Court in Pretoria dismissed Outa’s application to scrap e-tolling.
On 25 January this year, the High Court granted Outa leave to appeal the matter at the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.
The appeal is expected to be heard on September 25 and 26.
