Swing like a samurai

JOBURG - A former media personality in conjunction with Wits golf academy has launched the samurai sword swing project. This is a unique golf training technique which will bring back confidence and fun to dejected golfers.

Craig Berman, a former radio broadcaster said they used samurai swords to teach swing dynamics and grips. “We also teach them about proper rotation and weight transfer from the back to the front,” he said.

Berman said the difference was that when swinging a samurai sword, a golfer doesn’t have many thoughts going through their brain.

“The swing thoughts about setup, hazards and all the other thoughts of fear that golfers have to fight with will be a thing of the past. This concept helps the golfers to be more focused and enjoy the golf again and have fun.

“With the samurai swing, you are swinging much slower and easier because you are letting the club do the work, not you, and this is great news to prevent injury and reduce physical strain and exertion from swinging too hard during a session.”

Berman said the technique improved swing posture, rotation, balance, chipping, putting and getting the ball rolling on the line properly. “We provide more fluid action such as getting the right height, distance, shape and being more accurate which relieves stress and fears in golfers.”

He said they worked with everyone including professionals, high and lower handicaps, women, children and scratch golfers.
