JOBURG – Power is slowly being restored to suburbs affected by alleged sabotage by disgruntled City Power workers.

According to reports by ward councillors Tim Truluck, Amanda Forsythe and Marcelle Ravid, power had been restored to Rosebank, Parktown North and Emmarentia, while Greenside, Killarney, Riviera and parts Houghton were still without power on Friday afternoon.

Forsythe said she had spoken with a City Power operations manager who told her the entity had “very few” staff members working, and they were relying heavily on contractors to help restore power.

Radio Today station manager James Kinloch said the station had been one of many businesses affected by the power outage.

“It was devastating. We were without power from 6am on Thursday until 11.15am on Friday. We were able to broadcast via DStv, but the AM signal is important for us in Johannesburg,” he said.

Kinloch added that he thought bad management was at the root of the problem.
“Where is the mayor? Where is the city manager? No one seems to be taking responsibility for this,” he said.
