Special pre-screening of the new film

ROSEBANK - Movie buffs gathered at The Zone @ Rosebank for a special pre-screening of the new Neil Blomkamp film 'Elysium'.

The pre-screening was part of Ster Kinekor’s monthly movie buffs events in which the audience is given a sneak peek at a film and able to win exciting prizes and hampers from Ster Kinekor.

The August movie buffs event was hosted by movie buffs newcomer, Lee-Roy Wright.

Wright is 94.7 Highveld stereo’s resident film critic, his segment ‘Movies and Shakers’ airs during their drive time show.

And Wright started off the evening with a brief synopsis of the film before handing out hampers packed with free movie tickets and film merchandise.

One of the winners of Rosebank Killarney Gazette’s double movie ticket giveaway, Bernadette de Boucherville walked away with one of the hampers.

The film itself was action packed, intriguing and had strong ties to South Africa.

The director, Neil Blomkamp, is South African born and the villain is played by South African actor Sharlto Copley.

Matt Damon is riveting as a working-class hero determined to reach Elysium, a gigantic structure orbiting the post-apocalyptic and disease-ridden earth that is inhabited only by the elite.

In Elysium there is no sickness or strife due to their advanced medical technology.

Jodi Foster also stars in the film.

She plays an ambitious and ruthless politician who will stop at nothing to keep Elysium free from earth-born invaders.

Cinema goer Nick Bischoff said, “Elysium was amazing! I’ve been waiting for so long to watch it and it really lived up to my expectations.”
