Robber sentenced to 25 years imprisonment

YEOVILLE - A man has been sentenced to 25 years in jail for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court.

The man robbed a woman in Observatory at the corner of Kloof and Eckstein streets in May last year.

According to Yeoville police spokseperson Thabo Malatji, the woman was robbed of money, her cellphone and handbag the man then fled the scene.

“The woman informed security guards who contacted the police,” said Malatji. “The suspect was arrested a few blocks away from the crime scene and he was found in possession of unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.”

On 15 August the magistrate sentenced the suspect to 15 years imprisonment for armed robbery, seven years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and three years for possession of ammunition.
