Dorfman Karate gives back to the community

NORWOOD - The Norwood branch of Dorfman Karate, headed by 6th dan and eight-time world champion sensei Shane Dorfman, ran a donations drive for HA Jack Primary School.

HA Jack Primary, from where the karate school runs its children’s classes, was founded in 1949, and has a proud tradition of excellence in academia. Sadly, many of its pupils are now among the poorest with many only having a single parent or guardian.

Dorfman said, “Karate is not just about self-defence but is also about the development of one’s character. This was a perfect opportunity to teach our young students the importance of giving back to the community.”

The parents and members of the Dorfman karate dojo certainly came through, donating boxes filled with clothes, toys, stationery, books and R2 500 in cash.

On hand to collect the items from Dorfman and some of his youngest students, were principal of HA Jack, Ishmael Mashau, and a few of the school’s pupils. One of the school’s prefects, Nosipho Vilakazi, thanked Dorfman and his members. “Thank you for your generous donations and support of the school,” said Vilakazi.

The general camaraderie between the young karate children and HA Jack Praimary School pupils was tangible and could only set a positive tone for future joint initiatives.
