Residents encouraged to keep safe

JOBURG - The Norwood Community Policing Forum warned residents against people impersonating City Power officials.

The forum’s chairperson Duncan Barker said, “We hear of regular occurrences of our community being duped by criminals posing as persons from organisations. Please ask these people for accreditation.”

Barker also suggested that homeowners requested officials to provide identity documentation.

“If you are still nervous or worried, please call the police on 10111 or your local security company. Don’t just accept what you hear or see, rather ask questions.”

The forum also pointed out that there were also a number of house robberies occurring throughout the various suburbs. “If you see someone or something that looks out of place let the police know. If we are pro-active we can make a difference.”

Barker noted that many criminal activities seemed to occur in daylight during the week. “When you are not home, lock everything up, turn the alarm on and if you don’t have an alarm get your neighbour to look out for you. He also encouraged people to build relationships with their neighbours. “Get to know them as they are your first line of defence against criminals.”
