Jazz on the Lake welcomes Spring

JOBURG - The Arts Alive International festival kicked off to a fresh start with the annual Jazz on the Lake at Zoo Lake on 1 September.

A picnic vibe filled the park as thousands of people grooved to performances by Jazz pianist and producer Don Laka; Maskandi artist, Phuzekhemisi; and afro pop duo Mafikizolo, who had everyone on their feet, getting down to their famous hits.

Other acts included contemporary gospel singer Brenda Mntambo; New Orleans jazz giants, the Satchmo Trumpet Summit; India’s Sufi Gospel Project; and the Puisano programme.

Despite the massive road closures that frustrated motorists around Parktown, the festival proved a success with no reported incidents of violence or unlawfulness.

The Arts Alive festival is an event that celebrates different art forms including visual arts, poetry and literature at various venues.

It will conclude on 15 September.
