Jazz on the Lake road closures

PARKWOOD - The Johannesburg Arts Alive Festival will kick off with the annual Jazz on the Lake concert at Zoo Lake on 1 September.

The concert that has become known as the city’s unofficial welcome to spring will boast a line up of performers including Omar Sosa, Myragiya, Sibongile Khumalo, Fezile Feya Faku and Bheki Khoza.

According to ward councillor Tim Truluck, the road closures around Zoo Lake will take place from 6am until 6pm, and the outer closures will take place from 7am until 7pm.

“There will be sound checks on 31 August from 2pm until 5pm, and the concert itself will take place from 11am until 5.30pm,” he said.

Truluck reminded residents that the 2012 multi-event residents pass was still valid.

“If you don’t have one, or have guests for the day, residents’ day passes will be available at the Zoo Lake kiosk near Moyo from 23 until 31 August, 8am until 5pm. Residents need to bring their ID books and proof of residence,” he said.

Truluck added that residents and people who parked outside the perimeter would be able to make use of a free tuk-tuk service on the day.

Police spokesperson Princess Mudau said Parkview police would be present at the event, along with Metro police, to keep an eye on proceedings and ensure the safety of all present.

The zoo and military history museum will be closed on the day.
