Police shoot robber

According to police, the suspect had tried to rob the resident at the intersection of Lilly and Joel Streets. Police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at another man before he fired a shot. Zondo said officers were patrolling the street when they heard the gunshot and went to investigate. “When the suspect noticed the officers, he fired several shots at them and they (police) returned fire injuring the suspect in his stomach.”

The suspect was taken to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital under police guard. The police also recovered an unlicensed firearm. The suspect was still in a critical condition. Zondo said once he had recovered the man would appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder.
