Police arrest hijackers

YEOVILLE - Two suspected hijackers were arrested in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

Yeoville police who were on routine patrol spotted a silver Toyota Avanza with the registration number of a car that was reported hijacked in the Douglasdale area.

Police spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji said the officers monitored the vehicle that had three occupants. Malatji said, “When the occupants saw the police, they (the suspects) started shooting at them.”

According to Malatji the police returned fire and managed to arrest two suspects at the intersection of Raleigh Street and Fortesque Road.

One of them escaped. He said, “One of the arrested suspects was injured during the shooting and was taken to hospital under police guard.”

The suspects were charged for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and attempted murder. They will appear at Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court.
