Sandringham police investigate own cops

SANDRINGHAM - Police Station is investigating its own officers for their alleged misconduct and inability to deal with cases lodged by the public.

This came after Glenhazel resident Danny Joffe complained about the poor services rendered by two police officers from the station when his British based in-laws and family were robbed at gunpoint.

Joffe said one afternoon, his visitors and family were accosted in the driveway. “My wife and two daughters, aged nine and seven, were in the vehicle when four men with guns took the cash and jewellery from my wife and in-laws,” he said.

Joffe, a legal advisor, said the worst part was when a constable and a warrant officer from the Sandringham Police Station came to take statements. “They did not even know what to say to us but just looked at me blankly when they arrived. I am an insurance attorney and had to literally sit down with them and lead the process.”

He said the officers’ inability to take statements was hugely disappointing as well as their attitude towards his family. “No fingerprints were taken from the car. The only thing they were interested in was the value of what was taken for insurance purposes.”

Reacting to the complaint, the astounded acting station commander Colonel Jan Sefoloshe declared an immediate investigation would be conducted to verify what transpired on the day of the incident.

Joffe stated when his mother-in-law asked the officers if there was any chance of recovering the items, the constable laughed and said crime happens in the UK as well. Joffe said they were all extremely traumatised.

“Innocent little girls had guns put to their heads, can one risk the lives of one’s family. I do not want to annoy the police in any way but I was surprised at the way their visit to us was handled.”

Sefoloshe said the allegations sounded strange and he would deploy someone to investigate. “We will check the facts and will give the report,” he said.
