Rotarians make a difference

ROSEBANK - The Rotary Club of Rosebank wants to continue to make a difference in people's lives this year.

The club started the new calendar year in July with the induction of the new president, Melodene Stonestreet, in Wanderers.

Club member Ann Hope-Bailie said the club was involved in a number of projects which included the renovation of a school in Soweto. “We have just finished a new kitchen for them, we have handed out shoes to over 800 school children, and we are running a leadership camp in September for 60 Grade 11s,” she said.

The club has different committees for their community, vocational, youth and international projects throughout the year.

“We either raise funds ourselves or facilitate projects with corporate social investment funding and other like-minded groups and non-governmental organisations,” said Hope-Bailie.

She said the club’s objective was to improve the community, honour achievements and nurture the youth.

“We all have so much to offer in different ways, be it skills, knowledge or just friendship and strength in numbers,” she said.

Rotarians have a lot of fun and achieve enormous goals. Their meetings are held at Wanderer’s Club every Friday at 1pm and new members are welcome.
