Van den Bergh to represent SA

Canoeing unions are working flat out to improve the overall standards of the Olympic discipline of canoe sprinting in the country.

This follows in the wake of the bronze medal earned by Bridgitte Hartley at the London Olympics.

Following some stringent sprint training camps and an exhaustive three days of selections, Gauteng is very proud that three U23 and three U18 paddlers from the province were selected to be in the 13 man squad that will represent South Africa at the International Canoe Federation Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Welland, Canada, in August.

Martin van den Bergh, who has been a top Gauteng sprinter for many years has been selected for the U23 South African squad to participate at the championships and and he is looking forward to the challenge.

Van den Bergh is studying a BCom Sport Management degree at the University of Johannesburg and is also the sprint coach at Wemmer Pan.
