Yeoville police warned the community to be on the alert for a bogus immigration agent scam that is operating in the area.

According to the police reports the latest victim alleged that he was approached by a person who claimed to be an agent. He was promised three permanent residence permits. Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said the victim paid R75 000 to the alleged bogus agent. “He also gave the agent passports and later he received back the passports with permits.”

However, when the victim went to home affairs he was told the permits were fake. Malatji said the victim approached the alleged bogus agent, but he took the passports and was not seen again. Malatji said, “The police urge the community to follow proper procedures when applying for their permits and approach home affairs directly.”
