Councillor praises Colour Me Alex youth

ALEXANDRA - Ward 105 youth are praised by their councillor Joyce Ngwenya for their spirit of Ubuntu within the community.

Ward 105 councillor Joyce Ngwenya has praised the volunteering spirit of the youth involved in the project of painting the Tsutsumani flats.

She called on the youths in other wards to emulate the example set by those in her ward.

The youth, who are going to paint 380 flats in Tsutsumani and 18 in Vukuzenzele, are led by the enterprising youth members of the Colour Me Alex movement which is involved in various community and youth upliftment projects in Alexandra.

“I am very proud of the youth in this ward and especially those of Colour Me Alex, who came up with this initiative to volunteer not just their time, but their resources as well to ensure that their communities are uplifted,” said Ngwenya.

“This is a very rare gesture indeed, which deserves to be praised, encouraged and emulated by other youths in other wards, as together we can do more to make Alexandra shine and be an example of youth volunteerism in the entire country.

“We are planting a seed here in Ward 105 that we would like to see grow not just in other wards in Alex, but in other townships in Johannesburg and other communities in the whole country.”

Ngwenya also praised the involvement of private companies in the project such as Polar Air of Wynberg and Jack’s Paint in Highlands North, and said this was the kind of private-public partnership that government had been calling for over the years.

“Job creation is also a key issue in this project as we want to fight hunger and poverty, and also take the youth away from the streets and nyaope and keep them busy. I am proud of Jacob Setshedi, he is a young man with big ideas,” she said.
