Mammoth paintwork launches

Colour Me Alex has launched its mammoth paintwork project that will see the ageing Tsutsumani flats given a splash of colour.

Project director of Colour Me Alex Jacob Setshedi said his organisation had partnered with Polar Air and Jack’s Paint, which will see almost 400 flats in Tsutsumani painted, and another 18 in Vukuzenzele.

Included in the project will be the revamping and cleaning of various parks in Tsutsumani, as well as upgrading the Tsutsumani Football Ground situated next to the Engen Garage.

“We decided to launch the painting project on Mandela Day as part of Colour Me Alex’s 67 minutes of community work in honour of our ailing icon and statesman, former President Nelson Mandela,” said Setshedi.

The youth of Ward 105 would be involved in the project, and Colour Me Alex was currently in negotiations with the Community Works Programme with regards to stipends.

Setshedi emphasised that Colour Me Alex was not being funded for the project, except for the paint sponsorship and equipment bought by Polar Air.

“We have to fork out money from our own pockets in order to carry out this project for the common good all people of Alexandra. I urge other youth to follow our footsteps by either starting their own similar projects or join this existing one and develop it further.

“We are trying to send a message to the youth that anything is possible and that people can’t sit with begging bowls all the time and expect other people to fill them. Stand up and do it for yourselves,” he urged.

Polar Air’s Madeleine Reimer said they were greatly honoured to have partnered with Colour me Alex to uplift the spirit of the township and its residents. Staff of Polar Air also helped clean the surroundings in the blocks of flats being painted.
