Blanket drive to honour the late Timothy Harlow

GREENSIDE - Greenside's community came out in huge numbers to support a blanket drive hosted by the Timothy James Harlow Foundation.

The foundation was named after the 23-year-old Forrest Town resident who died tragically in a motorcycle accident in April.

The purpose of the blanket drive was to help the homeless to keep warm this winter.

At least 400 people attended and R16 000 was raised on the day.

Harlow was well known for his generosity and compassion towards others. To perpetuate his legacy and his philanthropic spirit, his parents, Amanda and Gary Harlow, established the foundation.

Organisers of the event were the foundation’s trustees: Timothy’s brother, Nick Harlow, and Timothy’s six closest friends, Kamogelo Kgadima, Reenen Lombard, Alex Bosman, Daniel Edwards, Cayla Campbell and Travis Campbell.

They set up the foundation’s Facebook page to drive awareness around the cause.

Harlow’s father, Gary, said, “The event at GIN was a wonderful way for all of us to remember Tim and honour his legacy.Additionally, it’s also a privilege for the trustees to learn the gift of giving and helping others in need at a young age. We were heartened by the turnout and support of the foundation’s first event, and we embraced the cause the trustees chose to support. It made us very proud.”

The proceeds would benefit individuals and communities whose rights have been compromised, or whose lives might be in jeopardy. It would also go to the educational funding and skills development of talented individuals from disadvantaged communities.
