Countdown to Old Eds race

The annual road race known as the Old Eds HFPA 21km race, co-hosted by Morningside Country Club Road Runners, will be held on 11 August.

The race will start and finish at the Old Edwardian Society’s grounds.

This year sees some innovative ideas that will benefit the runners. For the first time there will be voluntary seeding for both the 10 and 21km races. This should ensure that the potential front runners get the best possible start.

An electronic chip will be used for each runner’s time. Chips can either be bought or hired, but runners who have their own are encouraged to use them. The chip enables accurate timing, and finishing times will be received later in the day of the race.

However, first-time entrants don’t need a chip. These runners’ times will still be recorded, and those who finish in the top three in their respective age groups will qualify for a prize.

For every 100 entries online there will be spot prizes from Mazuno, worth around R500. Entrants could also register at The Sweat Shop or at the Old Edwardian Society. At the Society, registrations are open up to, and including, the day of the race.

There will be entertainment on offer throughout the day including a Home Brew Expo, as well as a Kids’ Zone.
