Reshuffle was Zuma’s prerogative says Presidency

JOBURG - The Presidency says President Jacob Zuma does not need to provide reasons for his cabinet reshuffling.

This after media raised questions on Zuma’s motives.

In a statement, the Presidency said it wished to remind opinion makers that the President of the Republic, uses his prerogative when appointing members to the National Executive. “He does not need to provide reasons”.

The incoming members of the National Executive will be sworn in at 3pm, 10 July at the Union Buildings in Pretoria by Justice Johan Froneman, representing Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, who is out of the country.

UPDATE: 9 July, 5pm

Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale and Communications Minister Dina Pule have been axed from the Cabinet.

President Jacob Zuma reshuffled his Cabinet for the fourth time on 9 July.

Sexwale is replaced by ANC MP Connie September and Pule by former deputy minister of co-operative governance and traditional affairs Yunus Carrim.

Other changes include:

Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs: Lechesa Tsenoli, former deputy minister for rural development and land reform, to replace Richard Baloyi;
Minister of Energy: Ben Martins, former minister of transport, to replace Dipuo Peters;
Minister of Transport: Peters to replace Martins;
Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development: John Jeffery, ANC MP, to replace Andries Nel;
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology: Michael Masutha, ANC MP, to fill vacancy;
Deputy Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs: Nel, to replace Carrim;
Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform: Pamela Tshwete, ANC MP, to replace Tsenoli.

The new member will be sworn in to office on 10 July.
