Four business robbers arrested

HILLBROW - Police arrested four suspects in connection with a series of business robberies in the area.

According to the police, in the latest incident, seven suspects allegedly stormed into a salon at the intersection of Twist and Bok Streets. Hillbrow police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said the suspects ordered the employees to lie down and they demanded money. Zondo said an argument ensued between the robbers and the uncooperative owner. “They shot him and fled the scene with undisclosed amount of cash.”

Later the police received a tip-off and followed the lead which ultimately led them to the corner of Koch and Quartz Streets in Joubert Park. Zondo said they found four of them while they were playing pool at a local centre. “Police cornered and arrested them and three of them is still at large.”

He said the suspects were also linked to other business robberies in the area. The suspects who were between 23 and 26 years were also charged with the attempted murder of the salon owner. They were expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. Zondo also appealed to the public to assist the police with the information that can lead to the arrest of the three other suspects who were still at large.
