Children rape suspect nabbed

NORWOOD - A man who allegedly raped two minors in two separate incidents is in custody following his arrest by Norwood police.

According to the police reports, one of the girls, a 11-year-old was alone at home coming from school when the incident took place. Norwood police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said the girl was taking off her school uniform when someone knocked at the door.

He threatened her with a knife before he forced her to lie on the bed. He then forced himself to the child.

Tsoanyane said the girl opened the door at their one-roomed home and the suspect came in and pushed the girl towards the bed. “He threatened her with a knife before he forced her to lie on the bed. He then forced himself to the child.”

She said the girl told the police that she screamed but no one came to her rescue as she was alone at the time. Tsoanyane said the suspect allegedly threatened to harm the child if she told anyone about the incident. “Indeed the girl didn’t tell her parent for about two weeks.”

Tsoanyane said the girl’s 12-year-old neighbour who was also allegedly raped by the suspect was the one who alerted her mother. She said the girl told her that she was raped by the suspect and that her neighbour was also a victim of the same suspect. The girl’s mother called the other victim and interrogated both children. “The 12-year-old told her mother that they were raped while their parents were not at home.”

The mother of the 12-year-old girl then approached the mother of the 11-year-old girl who was not aware of what had happened to her child as the child remained silent because she was scared of the suspect. Tsoanyane said the child was also reluctant to reveal what transpired on the day until the parents told her that they were calling the police.

The children told their parents that they knew the suspect as he always walked in Louis Botha Avenue. “The parents came to the police station and opened a case. The police arrested the suspect and is in police custody. He was expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
