OrtSA to spread cheer on Mandela Day

Ort SA has chosen six schools for its 2013 Mandela Day campaign.

Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s words, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”, Ort SA, the largest educational NGO in South Africa which runs maths and science projects in primary schools in disadvantaged areas of Johannesburg, and has chosen six of these schools for its 2013 Mandela Day campaign.

The campaign entails 67 minutes of community service and Ort SA has specially created an interactive educational game in the spirit of the Bill of Responsibilities.
This mirrors the Bill of Rights and teaches the right to become “a responsible human being who can make a difference in my family, school, community and country”.
Pupils will pair up in one of 80 classes to play the game with each other, and each class will have a volunteer facilitator to assist. Stationary packs and a snack will be given to each of the 4500 pupils taking part.

“South Africa is the only country in the world which has adopted a Bill of Responsibilities and what better way to inspire the youth of South Africa than with a fun game with an educational message? Ort SA strives to teach skills to a new generation so that they can commit to the ethics and values of the Bill of Responsibilities on this auspicious day,” said CEO of Ort SAYehuda Kay.
