40th annual Stor-Age Pirates 10K event set to take place

GREENSIDE – The 40th annual Stor-Age Pirates 10K race will explore Westcliff and Parkview.

Pirates Running Club will host the 40th annual Stor-Age Pirates 10K race on 5 August and this popular race on the running calendar will explore the leafy and historic suburbs of Westcliff and Parkview.

Each year, the area is abuzz with runners and their families as they take to the tarmac and join in the festivities, and this year will be no different. During the race, which starts and ends at Pirates Running Club in Greenside, runners will race past the 100-year-old Parkview Golf course, which adds character to the incredibly scenic course.

“Although August is still a chilly month in Joburg, this year we’re claiming the Stor-Age Pirates 10K as ‘Joburg’s warmest winter 10km’ because of the festive atmosphere on the route and at the finish. The Stor-Age Pirates 10K attracts some of Joburg’s fastest runners but is also a great event for novices wanting to go further than a fun run,” race director for Stor-Age Pirates 10K, Bradley Nelson said.

Participants have the choice of entering either the 10km run or the 10km walk, the latter of which constitutes an official CGA Walking League event.

Stor-Age is the proud title sponsor of not only this race but the Pirates Club as a whole. In addition to sponsoring the event, Stor-Age will be managing both water stations, ensuring runners are well-hydrated.

“Sponsoring sports teams, event and clubs, such as the Pirates Club, is a continually evolving focus of ours as we believe that it is a positive way to impact the community whilst providing a valuable service through our business. By sponsoring these events, we constantly strive to promote healthy lifestyle choices and encourage people to be active,” said head of sales, marketing and product at Stor-Age, Chris Oosthuizen.

Those who enter online will be able to collect their race numbers from their pre-selected Stor-Age store on either Thursday 2 August or Friday 4 August. This allows runners to collect their race numbers before the weekend and avoid the last minute rush of collecting their race numbers from Pirates Club on the day.

With only 3 000 entries available, it is important to secure your entry soon in order to avoid disappointment. All entries will receive one-month free self-storage with Stor-Age.

This year, the festivity and endurance showcased at the Stor-Age Pirates 10K promises to be even bigger and better than before.
