3rd ParkWords shares community spirit

PARKVIEW – Literary fans, friends and family spent a wonderful afternoon embracing community spirit at the 3rd ParkWords Literacy Festival.

Heritage Day ushered in the celebration of the 3rd ParkWords Literacy Festival as hundreds filled Tyrone Avenue to soak up some sun and embrace their inner bookworms.

The well-known avenue saw community members from far and wide gather together for informal talks and debates with local authors, journalists and academics. The Parkview Residents Association hosted ParkWords, last held in 2015, to highlight the incredibly intellectually talented people who live in the suburb and surrounds.

Chairperson of the association Theresa Gibbon said, “This is a day to come together as a community to have heaps of fun. It is a treat for friends and family while enjoying the sun, books and literary talks.”

Children of the neighbourhood sold their second-hand books with 20 per cent of proceeds going towards the Parkview Library to assist in purchasing more books. Aside from the wide variety of books, local artists displayed their stunning pieces with excellent entertainment from local band, Fat Tuesday.

Delectable food and glasses of sparkling wine helped get everyone into the mood for later dining and dancing with live entertainment from The Runaway Train Cult Collective band.
