LL Editions brings hand-printed art to Keyes Art Mile

ROSEBANK – Regardless of oil and water not mixing, artists and one master printer brought the two substances together with the art way.

Art enthusiasts were treated to the latest works from a variety of artists who print based on the immiscibility (inability to mix) of oil and water, which is called lithography. The works were exhibited at a pop-up shop on the Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank.

Organiser of shop, called Legate Lithography Editions Fine Art Printmaking Studio (LL Editions), Ann Roberts, said the artworks are hand-printed fine arts, which are different from digital prints.

“It is a very good way to introduce people to affordable and accessible fine art prints, which will retain their value. It is a collaboration between master printer Leshoka Joe Legate and an exciting group of well known and emerging South African artists to Keyes Art Mile,” Roberts explained.

She added that they would also be hosting a complimentary kids printing workshop.

According to Roberts, LL Editions, established in 2014, is modelled around the passionate interests of Legate, who trained at the Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico in the USA.

“The studio focuses on producing and publishing fine art original lithographs. They work collaboratively with artists, both young and established, to help them achieve their craftsmanship. They handle the technical considerations, process the stones and plates, as well as edition the limited original hand-printed lithographs,” Roberts said.

She added that in their workshop, artists are able to focus their creative energies and the intuitive aspects of the project, with the thorough supervision of their workshop master printers.
