PARKTOWN – The Johannesburg East Cluster held its first Annual Excellence Awards with Parkview Police Station taking home the most awards.

A momentous occasion by celebrating the men and women in blue saw all roads leading to the Sunnyside Park Hotel in Parktown. The South African Police Service, specifically the Johannesburg East Cluster held its first awards evening to honour the tireless efforts of the police who ensure that justice prevails. Happiness abounded for Parkview Police Station who scooped most of the awards, including Best Station of the Year.

The Annual Excellence Awards kicked off with a few words of wisdom from Reverend Captain Lilana Kasper, who said, “This is a celebration of men and women who know what it means to work hard; the ones who have a vision and who put everything in it to succeed with enough self-discipline to understand what is required of them.”

Brigadier at Hillbrow Police Station, Stanley Nevhuhulwi said the prosperity of any company, including the police, depends on how committed and dedicated the workers are. He added that the ‘little’ the police were doing is what the community needs.

Acting Joburg Cluster Commander, Brigadier Azwinndini Nengovhela said they were gathered to reflect on their roles as a team and not as individuals. “We got here because we worked hard. We recognise the work of members who have gone the extra mile in order to fulfil the objectives of the police,” said Nengovhela, who urged the attendees to look at the awarding of excellence not just as an event, but as a process of recognising work done by individuals every day. He also encouraged the recognition of those who contribute as patrollers, volunteers and reservists.

“Crime prevention is not the responsibility of the police only; it is the responsibility of all role players. Members of the community must join in and work with us so that we don’t lose the fight against crime,” said Nengovhela.

In giving words of encouragement, CPF Cluster board chairperson, Denzel Goldstone said, “May you continue to strive for excellence and keep making the community proud. Everyone’s hero should be themselves so when you look back you should see a hero.”
