OVASHEN NAIDOO: Coding is a critical skill. We need to get government and big companies involved and interested. We also need to teach critical skills in a home language.
The Rosebank Killarney Gazette asked some of the attendees of a think-tank on how to fix the economy and asked them to suggest ideas. Here is what they suggested…
TSHOLOFELO MONKU: I actually have an initiative which recognises unemployed and uneducated but skilled youths such as ones who can build a car from scratch. We link them up with corporations.VUK VUCETIC: Technology allows us as South Africans to disrupt the status quo. Skills such as programming can allow us to decolonise and form a unique Africa ability/systems.CINDY ROSS: We need to start introducing entrepreneural and critical thinking skills. We also need to encourage and teach youth to be skills-driven.LESEGO PLATA: We have managed to put infrastructure and manpower in place. However, we need to focus on building the individual and promote independent thinking from a young age.
