Celebrities, designers and musicians collaborated for Night with the Stars, one of HospiceWits’ largest fundraising initiatives.

Local celebrities modelled collections from various designers on the last night of SA Fashion Week at Sandton City. All proceeds from ticket sales will go toward caring for people with life threating illnesses. Over 100 celebrities, including Jonathan Boyton-Lee, Louise Carver, Bontle Modiselle and Lloyd Cele took part in the festivities.

HospiceWits is a non-profit organisation which provides palliative care to thousands of people each year and extends its services to family members as well.

“This annual event is such an important part of HospiceWits’ fundraising efforts as funds raised provides care and support for patients and their families. As an added bonus we get to celebrate and showcase South African creativity and design talent,” said Jacqui Kaye, CEO of HospiceWits.

Comedian, Jason Goliath, who took part in the fashion show said, “I lost my best friend to cancer last year so I had to spend a lot of time at a hospice so let me tell you, hospice is an unsung hero. Imagine loving someone when you know there is nothing you can do for them; you can make them comfortable and you can make them feel a bit better and help them leave with dignity.”

On the night, celebrities highlighted the importance of giving back to the community and helping those who might not be able to afford palliative care. Those who attended the show were encouraged to give back in any way possible, including donating time, money and goods.

Local celebrity Helen Desbois said that over the years HospiceWits has grown substantially and has helped thousands of people since it was first started in 1979.
