Holi Festival of Colours lights up Mary Fitzgerald Square

NEWTOWN - Joburg's Holi Festival of Colours brought an array of colour over Newtown's Mary Fitzgerald Square this weekend.

The festival transformed the infamous square into a multi-coloured dance floor.

People from all walks of life joined into the festivities with great entertainment from DJ Fresh, Dirty Herz and bit of crazyness from Crazy White Boy and Goldfish.

Every hour on the hour from 3pm a countdown culminated in party goers throwing their powder into the air to create a massive explosion of colour.

Holi is one of the largest festivals in India. It announces the arrival of Spring and the passing of Winter, and marks the victory of good over evil. During the celebrations the caste system is void, so everyone is equal. The multi-colours represent equality, as everyone is equally doused in colour.
