Ward committee members elected

EMMARENTIA – Three new members were elected to the Ward 87 committee at a public meeting held at Marks Park Sports Club.

The elected members will take on the health and social development, finance and infrastructure portfolios.

“We were fortunate to not have a long, complicated election. There were many volunteers, and the three nominees were uncontested,” said ward councillor Amanda Forsythe.

Social worker Patricia Eatock will handle health and social development, baker Wayne Frank finance, and civil engineer Wynand Dreyer infrastructure. The new office bearers replaced those who had resigned since the 2012 elections.

“The remaining members of my team ploughed on regardless and achieved some amazing results. I know our new members will add enormous value to the committee,” said Forsythe.

She explained the role of the committee was to assist and advise the councillor, and to ensure greater public involvement in local government.

“This committee is proof that a councillor’s job is the work of 10 people. It’s also proof that there are people out there who care enough to roll up their sleeves and help, instead of complaining on the side lines,” she said.

The new members will join Jeremy Clarke (transport), Arthur Mennigke (parks and environment), Ahmed Jassat (community development), William Gaul (housing and heritage), Eleanor Koning (economic development), Victor Voorendyk (town planning and urban management), and Geoff Klass (safety and security).

“I am honoured and delighted to be surrounded by such talented people who are willing to give of their time and energy to improve our community,” said Forsythe.
