Potjiekos competition raises R50 000

PARKVIEW - Nicarela Charities received a welcome boost of more than R50 000, thanks to the annual Parkview Potjiekos Competition.

Held at George Hay Park, the event was well-supported by both entrants and residents who sampled the various dishes.

Speaking on behalf of the competition organisers, Mosima Manthata said, “The judges continued to be impressed by the standard of entries, but nothing prepared them for the 30 entries received this year.”

Prizes were awarded for the potjies, for decor and spirit, and an overall winner was announced.

In the potjie category, the French Connection team took third place and received a R500 Komatie Butchery voucher. The second prize of R1000 in vouchers, sponsored by Astra Martima Underwriters, went to the Blue Bulls team, and the R2000 cash first prize, sponsored by Have2Need, went to The Hungry Pigs.

The Agnethas won a R750 meal voucher from The Local Grill for best decor and spirit.

The overall winners of the competition, The French Connection, received a one-night stay, including meals and two game drives, at Mabula Game Lodge.

Nicarela Charities will allocate the competition proceeds to a number of outreach projects and charitable organisations.
