Pupils celebrate newly-refurbished classroom

WESTCLIFF - The Hope School in Westcliff for pupils with disabilities has a reason to celebrate after its ill-equipped consumer studies classroom was eventually refurbished.

This was thanks to the Sun International Hotel which donated R247 000.

The donation was used to incorporate several mobility improvements in the classroom.

Ashnie Muthusamy of the hotel said, “The Hope School as the name signifies provides hope to children who society often overlooks. The hotel recognises the amazing work that is being done to not only empower these children with appropriate skills, but also allows them to live an independent lifestyle.”

Muthusamy said although the school was situated in the well-established suburb of Westcliff, it accommodated physically disabled children from impoverished areas such as Alexandra, Soweto and Diepsloot. “We are humbled to be involved in this initiative of giving children appropriate resources such as a well-equipped kitchen, allowing them to become independent citizens.”

Teacher Hester van der Merwe, “We are delighted with the results and I am sure this new environment will help to stimulate and motivate our students.”
