Keep the lights on

JOBURG – Eskom and City Power have launched an energy efficiency campaign to promote electricity proficiency.

The campaign, Jozi Maboneng, Keeping the Lights On, encourages residents to conserve electricity.

Eskom’s Reneilwe Semenya said the networks have been under severe strain due to the cold weather, and measures to bring energy consumption down through conservation have become more urgent.

“Eskom and the City of Joburg’s power utility, City Power are doing everything they can to keep the lights on this winter,” said Semenya.

She said the purpose of the campaign was to localise Eskom’s national electricity efficiency campaign, 49M, and bring its key messages to consumers’ doorsteps.

Its key objective is to foster a change in attitude and behaviour among Gauteng residents by driving the following key messages:

Beat the peak – tell others within your circle of friends why and how to do it

Switch off non-essential appliances from 5pm to 9pm

Switch to energy-saving appliances and technologies to reduce your consumption.
