Bessie Botma says cheers to life at the Wanderers Club.

Born in 1924 in the serene Free State town of Bothaville, Bessie’s roots run deep. Her family arrived in the Cape Colony in the 1600s, shaping the land before South Africa was on the map. This rich heritage has always been a source of pride for Bessie, who carries her family’s legacy forward with a blend of grit and grace.

The 1950s saw Bessie join the ranks of early air hostesses, taking to the skies from Jan Smuts Airport in propeller-driven Dakotas. Her career soon soared to international heights aboard Boeing 707s, making her one of the pioneering women to truly see the world. “I saw the world before most people even had passports,” she joked, her eyes sparkling with the mischief of a life well-lived.
