Dramatic chase leads to arrests in Norwood drug bust
A routine patrol by Norwood SAPS turned into a high-stakes pursuit, leading to the arrest of two men involved in drug possession and dealing.
Two suspects have been arrested in a significant drug bust by Norwood SAPS, following a dramatic foot chase on August 27.
Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha, spokesperson for Norwood SAPS, confirmed the arrests, crediting the swift actions of three crime prevention officers – Sergeant Samuel Khang, Sergeant Koena Nkoana, and Sergeant Vusimuzi Vhangani – for their crucial roles in the operation. The station’s commander, Logan Govender, and his management team have applauded the officers for their dedication and vigilance.

The incident unfolded around 16:00 during routine patrols when the officers noticed a man behaving suspiciously. Upon seeing the marked police van, the suspect bolted, triggering a high-speed foot pursuit. The chase ended near the Glenhove off-ramp in Melrose, where the suspect was apprehended.
When questioned about his sudden flight, the suspect provided no clear explanation. A search of his person revealed five zip-lock bags containing drugs. Upon further questioning, the suspect led officers to his supplier.
The supplier, upon spotting the approaching police van, also attempted to flee. However, the officers cornered him on the M1 freeway near the Killarney off-ramp. A search of his jacket pocket revealed 20 zip-lock bags filled with drugs, hidden inside a black plastic bag. Additionally, R1 500 in cash was confiscated.

Both suspects were arrested on the spot – one for possession of drugs and the other for dealing. They were informed of their rights and detained without any visible injuries.
