Johannesburg Water stress importance of reference numbers in service requests

Johannesburg Water is urging residents to include reference numbers when reporting water issues, as failing to do so significantly reduces the chances of timely identification and resolution of service disruptions.

In a bid to improve water service delivery, Johannesburg Water is calling on residents to include reference numbers when reporting water issues on social media. Without a reference number, the likelihood of Johannesburg Water being aware of a burst pipe or similar issue diminishes significantly. The utility emphasises the critical role that community input plays in identifying and addressing service disruptions.

Johannesburg Water heavily depends on residents to report problems such as leaking pipes, pipe bursts, and sewage leakages. To ensure efficient resolution, the utility urges residents to log calls using its various communication channels, providing detailed information including the nature of the issue, the exact physical address, the nearest corner, the suburb name, and a contact number if the issue is on the customer’s property.

Residents can report water issues through several platforms:

• X (Twitter): @JHBWater

• Facebook: Johannesburg Water

• 24-hour Hotline: 011 688 1699/086 056 2874

• SMS line: 45201

• Email: customerserviceemails@jwater.co.za

For additional information, and to receive regular updates on water interruptions, customers can visit the Johannesburg Water website: https://www.johannesburgwater.co.za/

By including the reference number and providing comprehensive details, residents help Johannesburg Water respond more effectively and maintain a reliable water service for the community.
