The station’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha, said, “the community was warned not to entertain any strange calls telling them they have won either smartphones or being asked to provide their banking details.”

The spokesperson explained how a community member was recently scammed. “In a recent incident, a person logged onto a website looking for a pet to gift his mother for her birthday. She then clicked on a WhatsApp link with contact details to where the conversation started and was told the pet was available for a certain amount, she transferred the money and again emailed proof of payment. Then she was told the dog would be delivered in due course, but never received the pet.”
