Youngsters give their thoughts on what they would do if they were president for the day.

Amogelang Dhlamini: If I were a president I would ensure every child was fed, and had access to basic needs. In the words of former President Nelson Mandela, 'Children are the future.'

With the national elections taking place today [May 29], we asked young learners what they would do if they were the president.

Being the president of a country comes with many things to ponder, how would you make a difference? Would it be longer breaks at school? Extra scoops of ice cream for everyone after dinner?

The Grade 2s and 3s at Saxonwold Primary School gave their thoughts on how they would hope to use this power and responsibility:

Mbalenhle Qanya: If I were president, I'd ensure everyone had a warm home and food. I would also ensure that children receive a good education and that everyone is employed with a good salary.

Aaron Milambwe: If I were a president, I would help the less fortunate.

Banele Mahlangu: If I were a president, I would ensure the country is safe and ensure no child goes to bed hungry.

Joy Kapela: If I were a president, I would put an end to load-shedding and ensure that every child received an education.

Kgothatso Spalding: If I were a president, I would punish people who steal and create jobs for people to buy their own homes.

Tiisetso Maseko: If I were a president, I would create more recreational spaces and safe areas for children.

Lesslyn Chikumbu: If I were a president, I would provide enough electricity and put an end to load-shedding.
