Park Care looks forward to 2024

The centre is an NPO which provides 24-hour nursing care to frail long-term and short-term residents.

Park Care Centre thanks donors and locals for their continuous support throughout 2023.

Executive manager Manda Pretorius said, “The community involvement in 2023 was positively transformative, helping residents thrive in difficult circumstances. The positive impact of involvement was more obvious after the withering, isolating effects of Covid on the elderly.”

Pretorius added no resident went without essentials due to the support received. Residents also enjoyed concerts, treats, and gifts.

Daily activities brought joy, residents danced, enjoyed ice cream, played bingo and created art.

She noted that Park Care faced challenges which included the financial impact of Covid-19, water-shedding and load-shedding. The lack of water supply to wards affected hygiene, incontinence aids disposal, and sanitary functions.

The manager highlighted that Park Care’s solar power conversion remained slow and costly. “The Department of Social Development funding hiccups were temporarily resolved, but the funding future for charities is uncertain due to the department’s refocus of priorities.”

We continue to appeal to the public to support Park Care financially, as well as with goods-in-kind donations for our frail residents.
