Parktown High School for Girls learner elated about honours white blazer

Daniella Monyepao said her realisation of how influential she was motivated her to put herself up for the responsibility of representing her peers.

Parktown High School for Girls learner, Daniella Monyepao recalls the journey to getting her white honours blazer.

The 17-year-old said that when she was in Grade 8, numerous opportunities to be in a leadership position, especially being an RCL, arose.

“My realisation of how influential my presence was, motivated me to put myself up for the responsibility of representing my peers, my school and myself.”

Monyepao said being in a position of leadership for the past four years has allowed her to experience many challenges that tested her principles and helped build her character.

Her biggest challenge has been trying to manage her time effectively given the many responsibilities she has including being the captain of two sporting codes and head girl.

“Throughout these challenges, I have learnt to be solution-based and not allow myself to dwell for too long on one problem. What has set me apart in my leadership style is my ability to identify and delegate responsibilities according to each person’s uniqueness.”

The Representative Council of Learners (RCL) president, noted that when the white blazer was impossible to achieve, being awarded half colours for netball in Grade 8 made the ‘impossible’ more possible thanks to the words of motivation from her hip-hop teacher.

Monyepao advised learners who wanted to follow in her white-blazered footsteps to be disciplined. “Staying disciplined provides stability and efficiency in your workflow. A familiar example of practising self-discipline is setting appropriate goals and working towards them without succumbing to procrastination or any unproductive temptations.”

The head girl added that she was interested in fulfilling studies in the medical field; specialising in paediatrics.

“I have always had the nature to nurture but especially towards children. Coming from a huge family, I was constantly reminded about the value of serving others and living for more than just yourself.”
