Local women break a sweat at Zoo Lake
Women's right attorney, Anushka Singh Bhima said her goal for the wombens fitness mornings is to help women stay fit and empower women.
A resident and women’s rights attorney, Anushka Singh Bhima united ‘womben’ for an exercise session at Zoo Lake on August 12.
The word ‘womben’ is a play on women and womb, and how the two are connected. The morning included fitness, legal training on women’s rights in the workplace, yoga and meditation.
According to a media statement issued by the office of the Presidency, “This year’s Women’s Month is celebrated under the theme: Women’s Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment: Building Back Better for Women’s Improved Resilience’. The concept of generation equality is a global campaign and links South Africa to global efforts to achieve gender equality by 2030.”
Singh Bhima said she hoped to grow the movement next year by inviting more women which would help them to stay strong, empowered, fit and prioritise their well-being.
Participant Allyson McKenna said, “This is a fun way to exercise and meet new women.”
