Parktown High School for Girls hosted its Grade 8–12 public speaking ‘best speaker’ finals on July 27.
The learners were challenged to come up with different topics which tested their speaking abilities in front of an audience.
The senior winners of the competition in ascending order were:
- Paballo Ramohlola
- Sebosarena Mello
- Mosa Motselebane
The junior winners of the competition in ascending order were:
- Lwethu Lubisi
- Zinhle Madondo
- Izzat Schroeder
Grade 9 learner, Lehlogonolo Ramoshaba said her speech was inspired by a musician’s song.
“What inspired my speech today was the song Only if by Steve Lacy which was written during my exams which is why it focused on the academic side of things. I started public speaking last year in Grade 8, and I have grown since.”
Ramoshaba said public speaking had helped her become more confident and improved her self-esteem.
She noted her main challenge was juggling public speaking with her schoolwork because it took time to write and practise a speech.
